History of the Mammoth Orange
Long a Hwy 99 landmark, the big orange closed in 2007, was abandoned in a storage yard (where it became home to a family of foxes), and was then brought to the Fossil Discovery Center to open as a concession stand after renovating the weathered and tagged sphere.
In the late '40's and 50's, California's roads were dotted with huge oranges, lemons, and limes. If all goes well, the Mammoth Orange will soon be beckoning the weary, hungry traveler once again.
California's last giant orange shaped hambuger stand: Real lemonade, fresh orange juice and orange juice shakes, and great "Alaska-Sized" hamburgers... all sold out of a 20-foot orange. Owned and operated by an actual Little Old Lady.. |
